Major Donations to Savannah Foundation Kick Start Fundraising Campaign

Fundraising for the Savannah R-III School District Foundation is off to a tremendous start, with a total $110,000+ raised to date. As soon as we can raise an additional $15,000 through alumni and community donations, the Foundation will receive a matching gift of $125,000 – which has been pledged by Steve (Lynn) Craig, a 1973 graduate of Savannah High School.

Foundation Builder’s, those donating $5,000 or more to the campaign, thus far include Tom Payne, Class of 1973, David Crane ‘76, Brad Hilsabeck ’82, Clayton Paper and distributing, E.L. Crawford Construction, Gary and Willa Swanson, Beverly Miller-Null in memory of Kenneth Miller ’58, and the Messick Trust. The $125,000 matching gift has been pledged by Steven Craig.

Steve was born in St. Joseph, graduated from SHS in 1973, and received his bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Southern California in 1978. He is founding partner, president and CEO of Craig Realty Group of Newport Beach, CA. While he spends most of his time in southern California, Steve values the area and schools in which he was raised and enjoys giving back to the community. In addition to his generous pledge to the Savannah R-III Foundation, he previously gave $5.5 million to the Missouri Western State University Foundation for the creation of the Steven L. Craig School of Business.

The Savannah R-III School District Foundation was founded in 2012 as a charitable not-for-profit corporation with a three-fold purpose: to enhance student learning opportunities; to promote innovative teaching; and to reward outstanding achievement. While the Foundation exists to support the Savannah School District, it stands separate and apart from the district, and is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The current board is comprised of Tim Kelley ’65, president; Jan Glenn ’75, vice president; Vicki Gates '72, secretary; Ron Shreve ’60, treasurer; Tracey Clark ’80, director; Darrell Jones ’82, director; and Susan Garrison ’83 (school board representative). A goal of $250,000 was set for the Foundation’s inaugural fundraising campaign.

Contributions from alumni, community members, organizations, businesses and other foundations support the fund. All donations to the Foundation are tax deductible as allowed by law and may be sent to: Savannah R-III School District Foundation, PO Box 302, Savannah, MO 64485.
